(a) a friendly greeting; (b) an introduction; and (c) a query about the other person’s wellbeing.

SECTION C

Answer the following] questions in about 200-250 words each

Q 1. Describe a new market area that you visited recently. You can describe in terms of its location, infrastructure, it’s comparison with other similar places etc.

ANS: My country, has many, many street markets or open-air markets all over the place which are visited by hundreds of thousands of people every day in order to meet their daily needs.

Today, I would like to talk about one of these open-air markets which I really enjoyed visiting about a few days ago.

The market, I am talking about, was located in a very old town and in the farthest north-western part of my country.

Situated by one of the largest rivers of my country, it used to (and I am sure, it still is) be considered as a “business hub”, by thousands of people who live in that area and beyond.

Occupying an area of almost 3 square kilometres, I think that this certainly is one of the largest street markets of my country.

In fact, this open-air market is so busy and popular among the people that a significant number of people (or rather “wholesalers”) actually come to this a day ahead of the scheduled “market day” with their products and merchandises so that they can find a suitable location to conduct their business activities.

However, even though, pretty much all kinds of items of our daily needs can be bought and sold in this busy street markets, this undoubtedly is aimed for mainly those farmers and businesses who want to buy and sell paddy and rice.

In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to suggest that this market is the perfect meeting place for all the wealthy farmers who either want to buy or sell their main “cash crops [i.e rice and paddy).”

Anyway, I enjoyed visiting the street market because I actually got to talk to so many different kinds of people from different backgrounds, and yet they were so friendly when doing business deals with each other.

I also enjoyed visiting this place because I had never really enjoyed such a beautiful of the river where rows upon rows of boats were floating and carrying fresh produces, stacked one upon another in a beautiful manner.

Q2. Write an essay on Gender Sensitization

Ans: Gender sensitization is the process of creating awareness regarding gender equality issues and modifying the behaviour and views that people hold about themselves and other genders.

This process helps in examining people’s “personal attitudes and beliefs and questioning the “realities’

they thought they know.” Gender sensitization is very important in these changing times. Women and men both play a key role at home, office and in society.

Therefore, it is important that both feel valued in society and lead a dignified life. Gender insensitivity and inequality in terms of difference in salary/wages, organisational culture, etc., are major factors that lead to a decline in productivity and increase absenteeism and staff turnover rate in an organisation.

When both genders feel empathetic towards each other, it creates a positive culture at home, workplace and in society.

Gender sensitization can lead to gender justice, equality and inclusion. Gender sensitization is the teaching of gender sensitivity and encouragement of behavior modification through raising awareness of gender equality concerns.

In other words, it is the process of making people aware of gender equality and the need to eliminate gender discrimination.

It involves understanding and challenging the existing gender roles, stereotypes, and biases that are prevalent in society.

Gender sensitization aims to create a more equal and just society where individuals are not discriminated against based on their gender.

The goal of gender sensitization is to address issues in gender equality and encourage participants to pursue solutions.

This can be achieved by conducting various sensitization campaigns, training centres, workshops, programs, etc.

In the domain of Humanities and Social Sciences, sensitization is seen as an awareness-informed propensity or disposition which aims at changing behavior so that it is sensitive to certain issues.

Gender sensitization may be seen as “the awareness informed propensity to behave in a manner which is sensitive to gender justice and gender equality issues.”
