Volvo EX 30 Review
Let’s check out what makes this small electric SUV such a big player in the EV market.
First up, let’s talk about design. The Volvo EX 30 is a perfect blend of Scandinavian minimalism and modern innovation.
Volvo EX 30 Design
It’s Volvo’s smallest electric SUV, but it really packs a punch with its distinctive look. Up front You’ve got the updated hammer headlights.
Now with the segmented design that looks sleek and stylish, these headlights aren’t just for show.
They’re designed to make you really visible in all light conditions.
Side View
From the side The EX 30 has a clean streamlined profile with a high gloss black exterior and detailing that adds character.
Model cloud blue color really contrasts against the Onyx black roof. It’s a modern chic look that really stands out at the back
Hyundai Santa Fe A Bold and Spacious Family SUV
The rear lights follow the same stylish design as a front. Ensuring the EX 30 looks great from every angle.
It’s compact, but it’s definitely a winner in terms of its looks.
High-Performance Powertrain
Under the bonnet, or should I say under the floor The EX 30 packs, a high voltage 400 volt lithium ion battery.
I’m checking out the twin motor performance variant, which means electric motors on both the front and the rear, giving us a whopping 315 kilowatts of power and 543 Newton meters of torque. That’s pretty impressive for a small SUV.
And to prove it, the EX 30 flies from zero to 100 in 3.6 seconds.
Impressive Range and Quick Charging
The EX 30 range is also decent. The Twin Motor performance version offers up to 460 kilometers on a single charge according to global WLTP figures.
If you go for the single motor extended range, you can get up to 480 kilometers.
so what are the charge times on a DC fast charger? You can go from 10% to 80% in just about 30 minutes.
That’s super convenient For quick top-ups during your busy day, an AC 11 kilowatt home charger will give you from zero to 100 in about eight hours.
I do wanna note that as far as we’re aware, the EX 30 does not have vehicle to load, which would be a notable emission.
Volvo EX 30 Smooth Driving Experience
On the road The EX 30 is smooth and responsive.
Despite its small size, it feels solid and stable.
The low center of gravity, thanks to the battery placement really helps with overall handling and just general ride comfort.
Being small and having a tighter wheel base also means that with all that performance, this thing can give you some really fun performance handling if you are up for it.
Hyundai Kona Electric Premium: Style, Performance
Top trim is all wheel drive. It grips really well.
Suspension feels a little stiff compared with larger SUVs, but given its size and category, it’s actually really good.
Obviously, you don’t get any engine noise, but the cabin is also really well insulated, so you don’t get any outside road noise either.
The region braking doesn’t feel as harsh as we remembered it from other Volvo EVs.
Advanced Infotainment and Tech Features
You can choose to turn on or off regen braking, but in order to do this, you need to use the infotainment screen in the center.
Also, to go with the 360 camera, there are a bunch of parking aid options that really make this a very easy vehicle to drive around the city.
Inside Volvo has gone all out with a very minimalist living room vibe.
The leather free interior uses recycled and renewable materials like flax wool and denim.
It’s a smart, sustainable design. It still feels luxurious.
Volvo’s ergonomic seats are supportive, but personally I didn’t find them that comfortable on longer drives.
The very minimalist dashboard means you have to control pretty much everything through this 12.3 inch tablet display.
One thing to note is the absence of a traditional instrument cluster.
Volvo EX 30 Compact Size
Look, some might find the minimalism a bit too sparse, especially if you are used to having detailed info right in front of you.
But at least Volvo has packed the EX 30 with text.
The center screen features Google Built-In apps, it says there is wireless apple CarPlay.
the Google-based system offers integrated maps that estimate your remaining battery percentage on arrival at your destination.
A neat feature, it worked really well, which is probably why we didn’t need to persevere with actually connecting it to Apple CarPlay.
The soundbar speaker system spans the width of the dashboard, freeing up space in the doors, and delivering impressive audio quality.
There’s a multi storage area at the floor and a sliding unit in the tunnel console between the front seats that serves as a cup holder and storage box.
Interior Space In Volvo EX 30
The interior storage is really clever too.
Plus the door pockets are fully usable.
There are also two wireless phone charges. Obviously given the size of the EX 30, we didn’t really expect a lot from the backseat and we didn’t get much.
there’s no kind of backseat pockets or this little guy doesn’t come down at all, but you do control the windows from the middle and you get cute little arm rests, which is, you know, a nice feature.
There are seven liters of trunk space up front, and the reboot gives you up to 313 liters.
There is also a 12 volt power outlet back here, but some extra features we do enjoy having are the over, over-the-air updates, and the Handy Volvo app that you can use to control features in your car.
Volvo EX 30 Safety Features
Volvo is known for safety and the EX 30 does not disappoint.
It comes with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including lane keeping aid, oncoming lane mitigation, runoff, road mitigation, BLIS with Steer Assist Intersection, auto brake, and so much more.
Competitive Pricing for an Electric SUV
Let’s talk pricing.
The Volvo EX 30 starts at $59,990 for the single motor extended plus variant.
The single motor extended Ultra is priced at $64990, and our top of the line twin Performance Ultra comes in at $69,990.
It’s a competitive price point for what you get. An electric SUV packed with features, performance, safety, and the Volvo Bands.
Final Thoughts: A Small SUV with Big Impact
Wrapping it up The 2024 Volvo EX 30 is a small SUV that makes a big impact with its impressive range, quick charging, luxurious and sustainable interior, and Volvo’s legendary safety features.
It is a fantastic option for anyone looking to go electric.
