The Chinmaya Mission is a spiritual organization founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1953, with a focus on the study and dissemination of the Vedanta philosophy, particularly as taught in the Upanishads.
The Upanishads are ancient Hindu scriptures that contain philosophical teachings and discussions on the nature of the ultimate reality and the individual self.
The term “Upanishad” means “sitting down near,” and refers to the practice of sitting at the feet of a spiritual teacher to receive instruction.
The Chinmaya Mission offers classes and study groups on the Upanishads and other Hindu scriptures, as well as retreats and other spiritual programs.
The organization has branches and centers around the world.
Chinmaya Mission also runs the “Upanishad Ganga” program, which is a series of video lectures on the Upanishads by Swami Tejomayananda, the current head of the Chinmaya Mission.
The lectures are available online and cover a wide range of topics, including the concepts of Brahman, Atman, and Maya, as well as the teachings of various Upanishads.
