About Movie
An immersion into the rich ecosystem of Sable Island, a remote sliver of land in the Northwest Atlantic, the film follows Zoe Lucas, a naturalist and environmentalist who has lived there for over 40 years collecting, cleaning and documenting marine litter that persistently washes up on the island’s shores.
Shot on 16mm and created using eco-friendly filmmaking techniques, Geographies of Solitude is a playful and reverent collaboration with the natural world filled with arresting images and made with an activist spirit.
It turns an ecology lesson, and an account of a noble, steadfast, single-minded pursuit, into art.
Filmmaker Jacqueline Mills uses a “contact mic” which enables us to hear the constant buzz of life – in wood, insects crawling up a plant – fascinating.
Consider how lucky we are to be able to explore Sable Island for 90 minutes.
Experimental, environmental, and existential, Jaqueline Mills’ poetic documentary follows the day-to-day work of Zoe Lucas, who has lived alone on Sable Island in the North Atlantic for decades
A visually and sonically arresting work of art and science about two people – an ecologist and a filmmaker – who find beauty, sadness, and music in everything around them, even things most casual observers would dismiss as being insignificant. Download Geographies Of Solitude Movie
